Sky Greenwalt Engagement Story

This may be a mushy love story, but I promise it's been one crazy ride! So let's start from the beginning... We had mutual friends at the beginning of high school so even though our towns were five minutes apart and our schools were rivals we always ended up hanging out on weekends doing teenager stuff. We never got to far from each others radar, nor did we hit it off right away. I thought he was a gentle teddy bear, my knight in shining armor, but we just stayed distant friends until after high school. We still ran into each other often, but never had a moment to really make a connection. A year out of high school I found myself in a crazy, horrifying life changing moment, but this time Jason did turn in to the knight who saved my life. I was confronted with a man and a gun.... but luckily Jason manged to show up in my life again at exactly the right moment. Small town or not he was the one who kept the trigger from being pulled and here we are over 6 years later. After that night we stayed in close contact and started spending time together. That quickly led to holding hands, a few dates, and our first kiss. After one date I found a note he had wrote explaining how much he adored me and his feelings for me. Jason is extremely shy and I thought this was about the sweetest thing anyone could do. He never pushed and we slowly made our way to relationship status. We started dating January 26, 2011. In the fall of that year we talked about moving in together. Jason showed up with an Australian Shepard and after that I had to move in for our puppy child's sake! We spent the next four years in and out of rental houses, working on college, trying to find adult jobs and get on the right track for life. We ended up with a roommate at one point who ended up being a criminal and we had to work with the FBI and got a trip to Alaska to testify in a federal case. We also spent time living in a barn (with heat) but in Michigan during the winter so I could be closer to school. We were young, crazy and in love, but that sure brought some fun into our lives. In 2014 a big farm house opened up to rent. The house is actually the house I grew up boarding & riding horses in. So the meaning of having it hit my heart hard. Jason help me fight to pull the money together and finally have a forever home of our own by the age of 24. Now that we had a beautiful home, stable jobs, and a tiny little family with a fur child; we decided we needed a new car. So we bought a Jeep. In January of '16 we celebrated 5 years together. By August we had the Jeep. We decided since we have lived in Michigan our whole lives and have barely seen it we planned on a 3 day weekend trip up north. With the Jeep loaded, living out of backpacks & a tent, and dog in tow we headed north. We started out taking a fall cruise route. The route ran along the coast of Lake Michigan and it was beautiful. We continued north and decided lets try out the extremely popular M-119 Tunnel of Trees. We drove through and I haven't seen so many jaw dropping views. Over Lake Michigan; high up off cliffs or right on the white sandy beaches. This drive is phenomenal. It took us all day to get to Mackinaw City we wanted to set up our camp in the daylight, but that never works. We arrived to our campsite at 10 pm and enjoyed a fire and sleeping only 25 feet away from the crashing waves of the lake. Temperatures dropped to 45 degrees that night with wind speeds 35 to 45 mph. I thought our tent was going to fly away, but Jason and our pup snuggled up and kept me safe. The next morning we wanted to cross the bridge and visit the U.P., but the wind was still blowing and I couldn't muster up the courage to drive across it. So Jason said "lets go back down the Tunnel of Trees and find some seasonal roads or two tracks and play in the Jeep. We drove back 1 hour to Harbor Springs, Mi stopped had a few drinks, and a bite to eat. We jumped back in the Jeep and started back to camp. We stopped along the Tunnel of Trees at a pull off to grab a few pictures. I jumped out quickly and raced to the edge of the cliff over looking trees and the beach where waves were crashing. The sun was shining, but big fluffy white fall clouds filled the sky. The wind was blowing making big waves the the leafs rustling. Next thing I noticed was Jason standing next to me. You could tell something was up he was so emotional, but he was to fast for me to even think of it. He looked me straight in the eyes, while I had camping/Jeep hair, comfy (not so pretty) clothes on and popped the question. I can barley remember the rest. I just remember him pulling out this beautiful ring his grandmother once wore, asking that ever so memorable question and that ever so lasting kiss. This proposal was spontaneous, ever so intimate and romantic. We enjoyed a few weeks of engagement to ourselves then screamed it to the world. We are planning a destination wedding (somewhere warm, not wintry Michigan) on January 26, 2018. Our seven year anniversary. I do love all love stories, but OURS if my absolute favorite! Forever Jason & Sky
